ST Power Hammers Australia

ST Power hammers is a Chinese-made improvement of the classic Russian STANKO model, with heavier cast body for rigidity and improved mechanical properties.

A power hammers or “pneumatic air hammer” is a mechanical hammer used in the forging industry for hot forging steel to shape. Originally these were running on steam but today most all power hammers run using electric motors.

The weight of the power hammer refers to the ram or head weight. For instance a 15 kg power hammer has a 15 kg ram coming down with each hit, the equivalent to dropping a 15 kg sledge hammer on the hot steel - except it hits up to 300 times per minute for fast, effective use of forging time. The ST 15 Kg Power hammer weights about 540 kg in total.

In stock in Sydney:

Nordic Edge have the most popular sizes in stock in Sydney and can deliver power hammers anywhere in NSW and VIC from 15 kg to 75 kg within 7-12 weeks from ordering, if not in stock at the time of ordering.

Each power hammer is inspected by a certified electrician as well as run in by a power hammer operator in Australia before being shipped to the customer, to make sure your power hammer will work right out of the box, for hammers up to 40 KG. For the heavier models this work can also be done at added cost, at the customer site.

Warranty: Lifetime warranty on hammer body, in addition to standard Australian 2 year warranty on machinery.

Support & Training

A power hammer is a significant tool in your workshop and a tool is only as good as the support behind it.

Each power hammer is inspected in Australia and run for at least 4 hours of the required 8 hour run-in period, going through a setup and run-in procedure to ensure that when the power hammer is installed in your shop we know it will operate as it should. Rather than being transported from the dock to your forge, we first inspect and test run each hammer ourselves.

Quality control and setup:

  • Each ST power hammer is inspected in Sydney before being sent out*

  • Each hammer is inspected by a certified Australian electrician

  • Each hammer is run through a setup and initial run procedure by an experienced power hammer operator in Sydney

  • Each hammer is run for at least 6 hours, greased and oiled, and completes a test forging run before being packed back up and prepared for final transport to customer

  • The operator who inspected your hammer will be discussing your hammer with you to make sure you get the most out of your purchase

*up to STH-40, the heavier models will be transported to the customer site but can still have the local quality assurance and run-in done at additional cost.

Electrical circuit:

The power hammer will need a dedicated electrical circuit, this needs to be installed by a certified electrician and we will provide the specifications based on the model you seelct. The 15 kg, 25 kg and 40 kg all run of a 240 V standard Australian circuit but there are capacity requiremens that very likely will require a dedicated circuit for the power hammer to be installed, at least for the larger sizes.

Ongoing support:

Our small team of epxerienced power hammer operators are available over the phone for video calls to help troubleshoot issues over time, or alternatively you can select to pay for premium on-site support depending on your location.
